Wow, that makes it sound really soon. I'm officially in my third trimester and have lots of good news to report. I DO NOT have gestational diabetes. I wasn't worried about it, but I was on the border line with Aubrey and had to spend four hours in a lab getting my blood drawn each hour and it wasn't pleasant! I avoided that whole ordeal by just eating right before the test was administered! I DO NOT have placenta previa. For those of you that have yet to be blessed with a baby, placenta previa is a a condition where your cervix is blocked by the placenta. The solution is bed rest during the end of your pregnancy, early induction and C-Section, and pelvic rest (use your imagination) after the 28th week. I was at risk earlier on in the pregnancy, but my placenta has migrated away from my cervix! Way to go placenta, we are all proud of you! She is still a girl according to the ultrasound tech. That's always reassuring when you plan on painting the nursery and what not prior to delivery. So that's the latest! I now start the final decent and get to do to the doctor every two weeks from now on.

11ish weeks to go!

The TRIP!
I know that most of you in the blogosphere have been waiting with baited breath for our pictures from our trip to Cali. Well, here you go!
We had a blast while we were there which consisted of playing with a lot of my old toys from when I was a little boy, letting Aubrey play with them too, playing a lot of Pepper and Sheep Head (card games) with the folks and Krystal, taking walks in the woods, eating amazing meals, introducing my family to my recently famed 4-3-2-1 breakfast, and drinking my fair share of beer...actually, I think I also drank Rachel's fair share too. It took a long time to get there and a longer time to get home, but it was all well worth it. Enjoy just a snapshot of our time there...get it...snapshot? Ugh!
When my grandpa died, he gave my dad a 12-gauge shotgun, which my dad in turn gave to me. I sent it home from Wisconsin with my dad as it is a lot easier to get use out of in the northwoods than it is in Castle Rock. I did shoot it once while I was there. Holy Moly! My ears are still ringing. Let's just say it was the wrong day to be a pineapple can.
One of Aubrey's highlights of the trip was getting her very first ride on Grandpa's big red tractor. This pictures could be called, "Look ma, no eyes!" Aubrey was more stunned I would say than excited, but in years to come she will be requesting the rides I am sure. On this day, I was also impressed with the huge plow blade my dad had put on his truck. Oh, how I wish he lived closer this winter.
Grandmas are great for a lot of things, like hugs and kisses, and dessert making and singing and changing diapers and playing on the floor, but not much is better than having them read books to you.

Grandpas a fun too. They like to tickle and play and take long walks. They have fun beards and deep bellowy talks. (I am turning this into a rhyme.) Apparently, Aubrey thought Grandpa was funnier in this picture than Grandpa thought he was. More books = more fun.
Aubrey really, really enjoyed Aunt Krystal. The best example is when Krystal decided to walk around the house with Aubrey until she got tired out. It took 10 laps around the house and the only one tired was Krystal. Aunties are great for playing with too. Whenever Krystal would try to stack the stacking cups, Aubrey would wait until she was just about done and then destroy the creation.
One night, dad and I were cooking hamburgers on the grill. I noticed Aubrey checking me out through the slider and we were laughing at each other like crazy.
The cutest though is when she walked up to the glass and planted her lips on the window for kisses. I had to oblige. Fortunately, my mom keeps an immaculate house, so our lips didn't even get dirty and I was spared the slobber.
We took this picture on Krystal's last day before she headed back to college at Chico State. Ahhh, what a cute family. And yes, that IS a Christmas banner in the background, but we do our Christmas in January so it was supposed to be there. :)
Thanks again for the Heldt hospitality. We had fun!

Delayed Vacation Posting...
I need Mike to help me up or download the pictures his parents sent from our trip before I finish the post. As you can see Mike has been very busy locating our sidewalk this weekend. Letters went out to residents while we were gone reminding us that it is our responsibility to keep public access ways clear in front of our homes. With six consecutive weekends of snow, Mike has been busy enough with the driveway. The time has come. He has about fifty-five feet of thick ice left to go through before we get to our property line. Yuck!
Dual Personality
Seriously, these pictures were taken within ten minutes of each other Saturday night. Crying Aubrey is upset that I won't let her have the camera. She was being really cute with her blanket, but deserted the game when the camera came out. Cracking up laughing Aubrey is playing a silly game with daddy. She would play the ABC song on her radio, but whenever Mike would start singing she would change it to Row Your Boat. Mike would make a sad face and Aubrey would crack up. I love both Aubrey's, but laughing Aubrey is more fun to be around.

Cute things about Aubrey
I know what you are thinking! Isn't that what this entire blog is about? Nope, we throw in weather pictures and rants about electronics too. I have been marveling lately about how cute Aubrey acts. She's 19.5 months now, barely verbal, but so communicative! None of these observations are special to Aubrey, she's just a normal toddler, but I've never spent this much time with someone else's toddler so here it goes...
- She runs around like a chicken with her head cut off when "Aubrey programming" begins and refuses to sit on the couch until she has gathered her blanket and monkey.
- When you name a body part she needs to first touch hers, and then everyone else's. This includes people who may be upstairs too. It also includes other people on the plane. We assured her that yes the man across from us has ears, but we are not going to touch them.
-There's a beach ball buried in the snow in the backyard. At least once a day she gets the indoor beach ball, goes to the window, lifts up the blinds, and yells ball as loud as she can.
-She mimics everything! If I put on lotion, she immediately starts rubbing her hands together. I'll catch her playing with her hair on the couch and realize I am doing the same thing with mine. -She loves when Mike takes the trash out and runs around with the trash can lid until a new bag is in and then puts it on top. I know, gross!
-She's learning to spit. Again, gross!
-She wipes her hands on her clothes when they get dirty.
-She likes to make toasts, and clings her cup to your glass every chance she gets.
-After her nap, I find her "reading" in her crib.
-She jumps, but only while on her knees.
-She has no problem saying more if it is candy or chips, but won't if it is healthy. She will also sign more for me at 3:00 to let me know it is snack time.
-She gives hugs to the neighbors daughter whenever we see them outside.
-The other day for no particular reason she attacked my face with her tongue. I was laughing so hard that my "no" was not convincing so she just kept at it. I was covered in spit and Mike was laughing too hard to stop her. Of course, I am not convinced he would have stopped her.
-She felt her sister kick today, withdrew her hand wide eyed, and gasped!
I'm sure that is more than enough. I need to remind myself of all of the cute things she does so the little tantrums can fade away. Blogger isn't letting me upload pictures so stay tunned!

A weeks vacation, well almost
We got back home late Tuesday after spending the week with Mike's parents and sister in Northern California. We flew from Denver to San Fran and drove the remainder or the trip to his parents house, about 6 hours. Door to door, the traveling took about 13 hours. Mike and I realized this is the same amount of time it took to drive directly form Tustin, CA.
So we concluded that Colorado is the same distance as Tustin from Northern California... or at least the same time commitment. When we made this trip last January we flew into San Jose and spent a half day on each end with friends of ours that live in the area. Since we are trying to save Mike's PTO days for the baby's birth we left those visits out and did the whole thing in a day. This required a few things; a portable DVD player, coloring books, blankets, fresh milk, mini marshmallows, powdered sugar donuts, and prayer! Aubrey was a trooper and was an amazing traveler. I am so thankful for this as she is a horrible car traveler at home and hates being in her carseat for over ten minutes! I will post some pictures of the trip tomorrow. Most pictures were taken with the parents camera and I need Mike to help me "find" them to add them to the blog. I know they have been emailed and are on this computer somewhere, but the term "needle in a haystack" comes to mind when I think about looking for them. So for now, enjoy traveling Aubrey, drinking milk, eating donuts, and watching The Backyardigans for the 20th time.
Technology bites, Part 3
In 2006, Mike and I had a brief run in with technology that was pretty annoying. Our NEW TV and NEW refrigerator broke around the same time. It's 2007 now and we are ready to leave all that in the past.. Our electronics, however, are not.
So after 13 hours of travel on Tuesday we got home at 8:23. Yes, it had snowed while we were gone, and no, we couldn't make it up our driveway. Mikey changed into some warmer clothes and started clearing the driveway. Aubrey played with just about every toy in the house within twenty minutes (Yes, I know it was past her bedtime, but we had been traveling for 13 hours)! And I went to turn on the computer to email Mike's parents and let them know we arrived safely. I have a college degree and all, but for the life of me I could not turn on the computer. I flipped the surge protector, pulled the PC out to make sure everything was connected, held the button down for numerous amounts of time, shook it a little (just kidding), I tried everything. After about 25 minutes of trying to figure out how to keep Mike away form the computer indefinitely, I casually opened the door and asked him if there was a trick to starting the computer. "Just push the button, Rachel." he said, assuming my brain has completely deteriorated at this point of the pregnancy. I returned in and got Aubrey ready for bed and waited for it.
Mike came in about ten minutes later and couldn't turn the computer on either. He took it one step farther and actually unscrewed everything to see if he could figure it out. I've heard banking officers are great at fixing computers! We wanted to go on line to research it, but... our computer wasn't working. He called Dell and for the low price of $3.50 a minute they would have helped us. So we retreated to the couch, had some soup, and watched a little TV.
Wednesday Mike returned to work and was able to do some trouble shooting there and spent his lunch hour at Radio Shack. Last night, my banking officer also became my IT guy! Yup! Our power source had gone out and it was a $40 fix! Better yet, Mike fixed it! So we are back on line. I really missed the computer yesterday which is kinda scary.
I have a doctor's appointment this morning and a lot to catch up on. I will post about our trip soon... Probably today :)

Monkey business
Aubrey can recognize a monkey from a mile away, even if I drew it. In fact, at the sight of a monkey (usually in a book) she must have her very own monkey immediately. Of course her monkey tends to be wherever we are not. So, I've concluded that baby sister will have to wear a monkey costume around Aubrey for a while. That way Aubrey will be excited by the sight of her and not jealous.

The Last Minute Heldts
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow? That seems to be our motto around here for things like putting received Christmas presents away, laundry, shoveling snow, and getting ready for vacation. We are taking a little less than a week to spend some time with the NOCAHeldts and sister Krystal later this week. This is Mike's last day off until we leave so we are frantically trying to get everything done while we have coverage for Aubrey. She's not a big fan of house work. I wonder where she got that trait? We are also having friends over for dinner tonight so we have that to prepare for too.
Needless to say, Mike and I have both been crazy busy since 9am. I just put my fifth load of laundry in the wash and made a batch of fudge for dessert. Wow, that doesn't really sound like much, but I've also been folding and putting away laundry all morning. Mike got our new portable DVD player all ready for the trip and recorded five episodes of The Backyardigans onto DVD. (Aubrey got to watch all five episodes while they were recording). He also shoveled our driveway and back patio yet again, and is now at the store picking up some things for dinner. Our dinner needs to simmer for three hours so I have to make that pretty soon too.
It will be really nice to come home to a clean house and even nicer not to have to do everything tomorrow night after Aubrey's in bed, but right now I'm pooped. Well, I better get back at it. Aubrey's napping so it's prime "get things done time." Just to think, in a few months there will be another Aubrey running around (not running so much). When will I ever have time to post?

TGIF
That's what most people are probably saying. But I am kinda bummed. I thought yesterday was Friday... All day. This morning I asked Mike what his day looked like and he seemed to have a lot to do in just four hours. I was also surprised that they were conducting interviews over the weekend. Then I said he should look on the bright side because he only has to work one more day before we go on vacation. He corrected me and said two. Huh... Silly Mike forgetting that Monday is a holiday. Then it hit me, it wasn't Saturday at all, but Friday. I have to live the day all over again? Didn't they make a movie about this? Several things happened yesterday that should have tipped me off to the Thursday-ness of the day. 1. I took out the trash because it was trash day. 2. Tammi called me on her way to work like she does every Thursday. And the biggy 3. We watched NBC's Thursday night line up for two hours last night. Nope, I wasn't going to budge. Something sparked Friday in my head and it stuck! So here I am, living my second Friday of the week. I hope it goes faster than yesterday!

Do you snooze?
I am not a snooze button user. I hate the snooze button. Why would I want to wreck the last 9, 18, 27, 36,... Minutes of my sleep with constant interruption? My style for the first three years of our marriage was great. I turned off the alarm before it even started (it was a CD, and the turning of the CD would wake me up), lay there for a few minutes and get up. Granted, a few times I would fall back asleep and wake up panicked thirty minutes later. No biggy, quick shower, hair and make-up, eat a Balance Bar on the way to work, and buy my lunch that day. I even stopped using the baby monitor when Aubrey was three months. It was too loud when she was asleep and that white noise would keep me awake.
Then there is Mike. He loves to snooze. Most mornings it is the alarm, plus two snooze buttons. I am in the same room, same bed, same house. One of these mornings I am going to kick him out of bed. I tried once, but he's pretty hard to move! I think the better solution is for me to get up when his first alarm goes off and I will already be out of the shower by the time he gets out of bed. He needs the snooze feature, we've talked about it. He has actually trained himself not to be able to wake up until his alarm has gone off three times. How insane is this? So my question is, are you a snooze button user? If so, how many times each morning? And do you live with anyone who wants to kill you by the time you finally get out of bed? The picture is of Mike and Aubrey at the hospital. How cute!

$10,000 moment
I've rarely experienced those priceless moments that you knew could have made a pretty penny if a video camera was on and the address for AFV was handy. The first happened my senior year of college. My dear friend Seanna tried to kick, our friend, Charlie after he said something mean-ish. Charlie, who was pretty timid, grabbed Seanna's leg in mid-air, and somehow brought her to the ground. It was as if time had stopped and we all lost it. The second happened Saturday.
Mike had been outside clearing snow for a few hours. Aubrey and I were in the living room playing. Well, I was on the couch on my side and Aubrey was standing on a stool watching daddy work outside. Mike came in after a while and Aubrey was SO excited. She ran right up to him and threw herself at him to give a monster hug. Well... Mike's a foot taller than I am so Aubrey just dove right between his legs and ended up on the entry way floor behind him. She was no worse for wear, but I laughed for a solid five minutes. See, not as funny as watching it on ABC. Oh well, we will have to find another way to get the money to finish our basement!

Post nap picture
Here's a picture of Aubrey after her nap the other day. She is having a snack of mini-marshmallows mixed with dried cranberries and has beverage options of grape juice and milk. She is also watching her favorite show, The Backyardigans. This is where she choose to sit so I thought it was picture worthy. She usually sits in the "L" portion of our sectional all cozzied in. I love this little munch!

Stocking Making 101
Seriously, if there is a course, I need to enroll. Attempt one was a failure. I cut the fabric on the wrong side so I cannot turn it inside out to sew it. I think I have to flip my homeade pattern over before cutting with the fabric inside out or the toe is going to point in the opposite direction of our stockings. I need Mike's spatial brain here before I risk wasting anymore fabric. My brain is no good at spatial stuff. I get lost in most malls and parking structures! Luckily it was only 24 minutes of my day wasted. Didn't I say in the last post I should be doing laundry? I should really listen to me!
A Year in Review
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Experienced a blizzard close up that crippled my state for nearly three days.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Isn't it just the fourth? My resolution is to find my waist by this time next year. I cannot even dream of exploring that until mid-June!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Always, I'm at that age. Four of my neighbors gave birth and they live very close. I also have friends back in Cali that did too.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, Mike's grandfather.
5. What places did you visit?
Cheyenne Mountain, Rocky Mountain National Park, several state parks in CO, Orange County, Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Bakersfield, and Santa Maria in the southern end of California. Morgan Hill, Salinas, and Zenia in the central/northern part of the state. Drove through many other states mostly visiting rest stops, fast food, and gas stations.
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Two children
7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
February 20th. Aubrey crawled, stood, and found out she was going to be a big sister.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I have no idea. Possibly maneuvering our barely passable neighborhood after huge back to back snow storms.
9. What was your biggest failure?
consistency attending church. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be with a child and without a bunch of people there waiting for you.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Lots of morning sickness, a broken nose, and a head injury!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Dish Network with DVR. How did we live without it all those years?
12. Where did most of your money go?
Monthly... To bills. All at once... Finishing our backyard. Who knew concrete, grass, and rocks could cost as much as a new car!
13. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Both pregnancies, Mike's new job, Aubrey walking, self-feeding, When Pirates came out,...
14. What song will always remind you of 2006?
I don't know names or artists, but that "Wake me up when September ends" song. It may have come out in "05, but it has never gone away.
15. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? I'm happier. People are sadder year after year?
b) thinner or fatter? fatter, but I'm six months pregnant.
16. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Getting involved in our church, going on dates with Mike, and laundry. I should be doing laundry right now!
17. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating cookies, but that is really just December.
18. How did you spend Christmas?
With my fam here at home and then with friends in the evening.
19. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Twice, with each pregnancy.
20. What was your favorite TV program?
Prison Break, Lost, So You Think You Can Dance
21. What was the best book you read?
Pottywise! I hope it works!
22. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I'm not really a music person, I just listen to whatever is on.
23. What did you want and get?
Pregnant
24. What did you want and not get?
To go on a family vacation that ended up on a tropical beach.
25. What was your favorite film of this year?
Pirates 2
26. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28 and am too old to remember what I did. I think we went to see Pirates, but that was a month later, but it is what I wanted to do.
27. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
From Breast feeding, to pregnant, to not pregnant, to pregnant. If it fit... kinda, I wore it.

I don't really care for celebrity idolization. But I love Dakota Fanning and have a soft spot for Orlando Bloom, dark curly hair, not Legolas.
29. Whom did you miss?
I miss my family every time Aubrey does something adorable that they may never witness, and I miss having solid girlfriends that aren't dependent on our kids playing together.
30. Who was the best new person you met?
Too early to tell! Hopefully our new pastor and his wife.
I stole this idea from my friend, Tara Sant'agata. Feel free to post your own 2006 moments on your site!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I have no idea. Possibly maneuvering our barely passable neighborhood after huge back to back snow storms.

It may have come out in "05, but it has never gone away.

a) happier or sadder? I'm happier. People are sadder year after year?
b) thinner or fatter? fatter, but I'm six months pregnant.
16. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Getting involved in our church, going on dates with Mike, and laundry. I should be doing laundry right now!

Still pregnant...
It makes me very happy to think a profile picture taken this time next year will look drastically different. I am currently 24.5 weeks pregnant and happily anticipating our new arrival. My next check up, at 28 weeks, will be a diabetes screen, an ultrasound to check the location of my placenta (it's sitting lower than it should and partially blocking my cervix. They need to see if it has risen yet, which it does 90 percent of the time), and the normal weight and blood pressure stuff. Hopefully it will be the last appointment that Aubrey will be joining me for. Starting mid-month Mike will have Tuesday's and Sunday's off so I can schedule the remainder of my exams for Tuesday's, kid free!I have started to look at bedding and plan the new nursery, but we are going to hold off until the next ultrasound to be reassured that our baby is STILL a girl. I am looking forward to being a mother of two in a year or so, but apprehensive about all the baby stuff that is in store for me so soon! Aubrey has grown into such a big girl, with the exception of wearing diapers, that it will be a huge adjustment to have a child so reliant on me again. Also Mike was home a good part of Aubrey's first year so I had A LOT of help, naps, and time away. I plan to treasure the next 15ish weeks and will hopefully be prepared when it is time to head to the hospital!
